The Presidential for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has described the ‘one million dollars, one constituency’ policy the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised Ghanaians prior to the 2016 elections as a sham.

According to the former president, the NPP has not fulfilled its one million dollars per constituency promise almost four years when Nana Akufo-Addo led the party to capture power.

“When I went to one of the constituencies, I saw only four public toilets and even with that some are yet to be completed. And is that their ‘one million per constituency project’?

According to him, projects claimed to be done by the NPP under the one million, one constituency, are nothing but imaginary and “complete Sakawa.”

“There are no other projects anywhere. Those projects they are claiming are projects that were once undertaken by the District Assemblies.”

Mr. Mahama further stated that during his administration, District Assemblies received 7.5% of government’s revenue aside projects being undertaken by those assemblies but this he said, has been slashed to 5% under when Nana Akufo-Addo over power.

“We used to give to the District Assemblies 7.5% of government revenue and the Districts were already building their own schools, clinics and many more.

“But when NPP came to power, they have reduced the District Assemblies Common Fund from 7.5% to 5% and that is the extra money he is investing into the development authorities and he is there saying ‘I’ve built public toilets for this constituency under the one million one constituency’,” he claimed.
