Senior police officer shoots himself dead on Val’s Day

A Police Officer, DSP Devine Asiam of Tema Courts Unit at Borteyman has committed suicide. 

According to Adjei-Kojo District Crime Officer, DSP Akrofi Ansah, it was a shooting incident which happened on February 14, 2021 at about 7:45 hours in the room of DSP Asiam.

Men who were dispatched to the scene on hearing the incident m,et him with a gunshot wound around his left eye suspected to be self-inflicted and bleeding profusely.

Still alive, DSP Asiam was rushed to the Police Hospital for immediate medical attention but died shortly after.

The District Crime Officer, DSP Akrofi Ansah and Investigator Sgt. Victoria Afedo, proceeded to the hospital where he was seen on a stretcher in a supine position.

Their examination of the body revealed gunshot wounds to the chin and top of his left eye, suggesting that he shot himself under his chin and the bullet exited through the top of his left eye. 

At the crime scene, the Police retrieved the following exhibits to be kept for evidence: a Pietro Berretta Pistol smeared with blood, a magazine containing four live rounds of ammunition, a suicide note dated February 14, 2021 at 1:30 hours, and a spent shell.
