Akufo-Addo orders removal of miners and equipment from Ghana’s water bodies

President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has authorized the removal of persons and logistics involved in mining in Ghana’s water bodies.

According to a communique signed and issued on April 28, 2021 by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the directive is to “ensure that mining within the water bodies is immediately stopped.”

Accordingly, the Ghana Armed Forces who was tasked for the course, has begun operations on the Pra River in the Central and Western regions of the country.

A total of 200 personnel from the Armed Forces are involved in the process which started on April 28, 2021 at about 0600 hours.

It is therefore expected that the Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Armed Forces will brief the public on developments and sustainability efforts on April 30, 2021 at about 1200 hours.
