Takoradi Interchange workers agitate, abandon work over poor wages and conditions
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Workers working on the Takoradi Interchange in the Western Region have boycotted work over unfair working conditions and unfair wages.

The workers who had laid down their working tools had gathered in their numbers at the main entrance of the administrative office to agitate and make their concerns known to authorities.

One of the aggrieved workers working on the Sinohydro-funded project lamented that despite their hardwork on the three-tier interchange, authorities have not treated them well.

According to them, their daily wage is pegged at GH¢19 which is woefully inadequate and completely unfair.

Some of them recounted that they were made to undertake tasks without the use of proper equipment and under unsafe working conditions.

Beyond their paltry daily wages and poor working conditions, they added that there is no compensation for overtime work or insurance packages for workers.

The workers have threatened not to resume work until their concerns are properly met.

The PTC interchange is funded by Sinohydro and was started in December 2020 and is expected to be completed within 30 months.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, cut the sod for the project to begin in 2020.
