The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that woman who was reportedly found after going missing at Takoradi in the Western Region, was not pregnant.

According to a statement issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kwesi Ofori, dated September 23, 2021 investigations conducted into her alleged pregnancy and loss of baby from hospitals she was reported to have attended for antenatal reviews, revealed that she has not been pregnant.

“The victim, now a suspect, during interrogation mentioned the European Hospital in Takoradi as the hospital for her antenatal reviews and assessment. Medical records at the facility suggest that the lady visited the hospital without pregnancy somewhere in October last year,” the statement said.

The Police added in their statement that, Josephine Panyin Mensah “may have conspired with other persons over her possible planned disappearance”.

Police report on the investigation

Prior to the report, however, the Minister for the Western Region, Kwaben Okyere Darko-Mensah, on Angel FM’s Anopa Bↄfoↄ morning show on September 22, 2021 had debunked the claims that the victim, now a suspect of investigation was pregnant.

He noted that the security apparatus would investigate and report on same, though the husband of the suspect has maintained that his wife has been pregnant and was in her ninth month and about to deliver.
