Kwabena Amoah Anthony Ampadu, one of the sons of Highlife musician, Nana Ampadu, has revealed that his father composed close to 850 songs in his life time.

Speaking on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofo Morning Show, he noted that there are some songs from his father that he has never heard of.

While interacting with Kwamina Sam-Biney, he said: “Talking about my father’s songs, I Nana Amoah Ampadu personally know about 584 single songs which he has composed”.

He however, disclosed that “there are songs which I have never listened to before. I sometimes meet someone and they mention a song to me which I’m not familiar with or heard of. He also has songs he has composed and given to people so putting all these together, all his songs would be about 850”.

Nana Ampadu was crowned king of singers after emerging winner of a national competition in 1973.

In August 2020, Veteran high life musician, JA Adofo acknowledged that he copied Nana Ampadu’s style and music beat as a budding artiste.

Recalling some fond memories of his father, Kwabena Ampadu said his father was a great story teller.

He confessed that though he doesn’t know where the tales were from but Nana Ampadu had tons of them, each different from the last.

According to son of the veteran Highlife musician, the stories told by his father could lead one to find God and this was a trademark of his in his songs even before accepting Christ.

“My father’s songs can lead you to God because when we talk of knowing God, it is based on behaviour. That’s why Christ came to live such an exemplary life to guide us. Even before discovering God, what he preached in his songs were worth emulating.”

Mr. Kwabena Anthony Ampadu concluded that the legendary musician was also a disciplinarian and wouldn’t spare his children for misbehaving.

Nana Ampadu died aged 76, on Tuesday september 29, 2021 after battling an illness.

He is credited with composing songs such as Oman Bo Adwo, Obra, Ebi Te Yie and a host of others.

Scores of Ghanaians took to social media to pay tribute to the legend.
