The Ghana National School Feeding Caterers Association has revealed that since 2019/2020 the school feeding secretariat has been paying some 510 schools which have not subscribed to the feeding program an estimated amount of GH¢12 million across the country.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Caroline Aboagye, bemoaned what they described as poor managerial skills of the leadership of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).

According to her, “the National Coordinator, because she supervises payments, if she gave those monies [Gh¢12 million] paid the Ghost Schools to true caterers, there would be excesses that could be used to develop the country.”

She added that with over 9000 schools participating in the scheme in all parts of the country coupled with with less operational staffs, monitoring to ensure compliance and integrity has been a very difficult exercise.

Mrs Aboagye therefore called on President Akufo-Addo to set aside authorities of the scheme at all levels for investigation purposes and to re-engineer the development sought after.

“The National Coordinator, District Directors and all political appointees at the National, Regional and District Secretariats be set aside so that the vision with which the programme was implemented would materialise.”

“The media should also support us to check the veracity of the statements we have made as against what the Coordinator and the Minister for Gender Children and Social Protection have been saying whether that there is no element of corruption in the scheme” Madam Caroline added.
