Scores of residents in Assin Fosu and adjoining communities in the central Region have been rendered homeless following a heavy downpour on Tuesday.

The nearly two hours downpour saw affected persons putting up with friends and other relations while properties running into thousands of cedis were being destroyed.

Some of the affected areas are New road, SDA, Breman and suburbs such as Assin Odumase.

The road leading to Assin Odumase for instance was rendered impassable by motorists, creating heavy vehicular traffic for hours.

Speaking to Angel FM reporter Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack, some affected residents blamed the situation largely on poor drainage system as well as a 3-year abandoned ring road which has left a bridge under construction unattended to.

“The bridge is not spacious, the diversion they did was not the best, a situation we have complained on countless occasions but no one has listened to us”

“The drainage system through the bridge is also not good so whenever it rains, then it directs the floods to our homes and is worrying us too much” some affected residents complained bitterly.

They stressed that the narrowness of gutters in the area, considering the volume of water it carries from nearby rivers, is a poor work done by contractors.

Thus, they’re calling on authorities to as a matter of urgency to fix the bridge properly to end their predicament.
