Tidal Waves: Assembly to relocate residents to an island–Ketu South MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ketu South in the Volta Region, Maxwell Lugudor, has said that authorities in the area are set to relocate residents affected by the tidal waves to an Island.

According to the newly nominated MCE, the victims themselves discovered the island about which a consultative meeting will be held to bring finality to the proposal before moving them to the place.

Speaking on the Tuesday edition of Angel FM’s Anopa Bofo morning show, Maxwell Lugudor, said the victims had on several occasions refused to move away from the sea side, but following the unfortunate incident, they have accepted to move to the island.

‘’I understand that for quite a long time, whenever authorities tried relocating them, they will tell you that, they prefer there because they have been there for so many years. But today after the incident happen, luckily, they themselves are willing to go and have by so doing helped us identify a particular island.’’

He added that he and his entourage had already been to the island to survey it and thus, working hard to as soon as possible service the place with electricity, drinking water and other basic needs to enhances their living whenever they move there.

He indicated that with this move, they will use the opportunity to clear all persons living closer to the sea area to prevent any unforeseen circumstances.

Meanwhile, some of the affected residents have been accommodated in some churches which received them after some 1027 individuals were displaced and 500 homes were destroyed by the tidal waves that buffeted their dwelling places on the dawn of Sunday
