Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ajumako Enyan Esiam has described the 2022 budget as one that will eradicate a cashless economy.

He made this submission in an interview on JoyNews’ News Night program on Monday November 17, 2021.

According to Mr. Forson who is Ranking Member on the Finance Committee, the imposition of the 1.7% tax payment on mobile money, bank transfers and electronic transfers termed as “E-tax” will only encourage people to haul money in their cars, at home and in their bags just to evade the payment of the E-taxes proposed by the government.

He again described the decision as a double tax system that will overburden the ordinary Ghanaian and also lead to distortions in the economy.

He said, employers will attract additional charges in paying their workers which will be passed on to their clients and customers leading to high cost of living.

He also expressed concerns about his constituents, saying they will be saddened at what he described as “Bawumia’s digital tax” considering the living standard of his constituents.

He refuted claims made by the majority in Parliament that the minor are jubilating. According to him, they are rather saddened and will not apprehend the decision by the government to introduce the E-tax.
