The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is facing eviction from its Krofuom office over unpaid rent.

The landlady who appeared enraged on the morning of Friday November 19, 2021 forced the party to call off a Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) meeting as they tried to lock up the facility.

Together with some irate young men believed to be her children, they demanded a 3-year rent default or the party goes packing.

On January 23, 2014 Chairman Antwi Bosiako who was then a top contender for the regional chairmanship position held a ceremony to donate a three storey building clad in NPP colours.

Eight years later, the owner of the facility is back, chasing the party for unpaid rent.

Narrating what accounted for the incident to the media, son of the landlady, Emmanuel Yankson said, the party owes a 3 year rent amounting to Ghc36000.

He said: “My elder brother gave out this facility to the NPP for a thousand cedis each month for 5 years. We agreed to renegotiate after every 2 years.

“It’s been over eight years since we rented the property to the party and no renovation has taken place. A whole party office now looks like an abandoned structure.”

“My mother has been to Chairman Wontumi’s house countless times but met his absence. He doesn’t visit the party office anymore. Wontumi went to the extent of disconnecting power to this house because my over 70 year old mother may use it.

“This morning we heard TESCON is organizing a program and we came to meet the Chairman. We need him to settle this issue with our mother. The facility has been locked up until further notice” he added.

On Thursday, April 19, 2018, the NPP organized a special fundraising at Dunkirk, a suburb of Kumasi to mobilize funds to finance the party’s camping in the region.

The Second Lady, Samira Bawumia was present to cut sod for the construction.

The office when completed will be located at Dadiesoaba and will contain 24 offices and three conference halls.

However, three years down the line, it is still unclear whether or not the project will be executed.
