A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Fomena Constituency, Mr. Akwasi Nti, has alleged that Mr. Antwi Bosiako sponsored some independent candidates to unseat party Members of Parliament in the Ashanti Region.

He made the allegations in a recent interview granted a Kumasi-based radio station, Akoma FM, on November 22, 2021 monitored by Angelonline.com.gh.

Some incumbent MPs including Benito Owusu Bio, from Atwima-Nwabiagya Constituency, Joseph Osei-Wusu of Bekwai, Isaac Asiamah of Atwima Mponua and Patricia Appiagyei of Asokwa were contested by some party members who went as independent candidates in the December 7, 2020 elections.

However according to the disgruntled former executive, the contenders were sponsored by Mr. Bosiako who is the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman to serve his parochial interest.

Asked why the leader who is supposed to help garner votes for the party in the region would orchestrate the kind of allegation being levelled against him, Mr. Nti said in Twi parlance, “You’ve no idea what Wontumi can do.”

“He wouldn’t mind risking everything for the downfall of another. He’s a liar too. See, he can lie to make everyone hate you. You people don’t know!” he added.

Few weeks into the elections, then Candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated emphatically that he would not work with any party member who defied party rules to contest independently.

NPP accuses NDC government of “fiddling” with anti-flood interventions as June 29 rains hit Accra

“You should not vote for such characters since they are only out there to create confusion,” he insisted in his address to the voters.

Consequently, few of the independent candidates stepped down before the polls while others disregarded the warnings, and yet lost to the incumbents.

Mr. Nti, daring Chairman Wontumi to speak to same, noted that the members of the NPP witnessed the events regarding the candidature of the independent persons including all that took place in the Kumawu Constituency and Manson constituency as well.
