A newly-installed chief and 22 persons have been arrested by the police, for allegedly engaging in a gun battle at Yamoah Nkwanta in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region during the installation of another chief known as Teacher Oluu.

The Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Okyere Boapeah, in an interview with Angel News’ Opanyin Darko explained that, the command had earlier on met the traditional king makers and advised them to halt the installation of the chief known as Teacher Oluu due to security reasons but the kingmakers still went ahead with a new installation.

During the ceremony, another faction rose to protest thus leading to a gun battle between the two.

For several hours, residents of Yamoah Nkwanta were kept hostage in their homes as the two factions battled each other until the police intervened.

The police retrieved a pump action gun, a foreign pistol, a metal handcuff, some cartridges and a club hammer from the arrested persons.

While calling for calm to prevail, DCOP Boapeah hinted that activities of landguards and chieftaincy issues are the leading security threats in the Kasoa region.

He called on kingmakers to always ensure that the rightful candidate is installed in order to prevent any rancor.
