The Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) has reduced its fuel price per litre at all its stations in the country.

This change in price took effect from Tuesday, December 7, 2021 to meet the demands of transport unions.

The change comes after Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Opare, met with leaders of the driver unions on the back of their sit-down strike on Monday, December 6, 2021.

Currently, Goil is selling its fuel at a cost of GHC6.85 pesewas per litre. To effect the change, Goil noted that it will be reducing the fuel price by 0.15 pesewas, thus it’s fuel will now sell at GHC6.70.

In this regard, the General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, Emmanuel Ohene-Yeboah, noted that during the meeting on Monday, the Chief of Staff promised them that their concerns will be met since President Akufo-Addo had directed Goil to reduce the fuel price.

“During our meeting with the Chief of Staff, she told us Goil will be reducing its price to GHC 6.7 or even more,” he told Adom FM as monitored by Angelonline.com.gh

Reacting to the development, Vice-Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Association, David Agboado said, they received the news as a relief but will engage in a consultative meeting with their members on the way forward.

“Though the government has directed Goil to reduce fuel prices we shall meet our members first and discuss the way forward whether we are satisfied or not before our next line of action is made known to the public…,” he said in a  sepatate interview on Accra FM.

Strike Action

The Coalition of Commercial Transport Operators on Monday, December 6, 2021 embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike to protest against the High cost of fuel prices in the country.

According to them, their actions follows after the government failed to heed their request to scrap some levies on fuel prices.

Thus, their actions rendered several passengers stranded because there were no vehicles available for commuters to board to their various destination, leaving many to trek long distances.
