46th SWAG Awards: Here’s the full list of winners

The 46th awards night of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana(SWAG) was held on Friday December 17, 2021 at the Accra International Conference Center.

The annual ceremony organized by the Association is aimed at honoring the role of sports personalities who have contributed in diverse ways to the sports industry.

In attendance were Ghana’s vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; the Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif; the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II; Hearts of Oak bankroller, Togbe Afede XIV and veteran sports journalist Kwabena Yeboah who doubles as SWAG President.

Accra Hearts of Oak forward and captain of the U-20 men’s national team, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was adjudged the best home-based footballer after beating contest from Ismael Ganiyu of Kotoko and former Karela United talisman, Diawusi Taylor.

Elsewhere, Ajax and Black Stars midfielder Kudus Mohammed also appeared as the best foreign-based footballer of the year.

In other categories, Dreams FC youngster, Fatawu Issahaku grabbed the discovery of the year award following his magnificent performance during the WAFU ZONE-B U17 Championship and the U20 AFCON.

Currently, he has six goals to his name in the ongoing Ghana Premier league GPL.

Also, Janet Egyir, the Captain of multiple title winning side–Hasaacas Ladies–appeared as the female most valuable player of the year in the womens category.

Meanwhile, her side Hasaacas Ladies were adjudged the team of the year.

Hasaacas Ladies won five trophies in six different competitions this year, and were finalist of the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, losing to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
