  1. The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) has called for the separation of the Ministry of Justice from the Office of the Attorney-General.

According to the party there is the need for the government to allow the two offices operate separately from each other since the same office which is working for the government, cannot be the same pursuing government officials who are committing criminal offences while in office.

“It is important that the Minister of Justice who is the government lawyer, is not the same person who is the people’s layer, and prosecuting crimes in the country.

“People in government also commit crimes so we need someone who is outside the government to prosecute all crimes”

“The PPP is demanding independent public prosecutor who is constitutionally independent of the ministry of Justice with a fixed term of office which does not commence or end with political president.”

The party’s representative, Simon Quansah made this observation when he was speaking at the National Delegates Conference held at the Heroes Park in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region.

He further called for the independent public prosecutor to “be elected by the people of a different electoral cycle and accountable to only the parliament”.

He noted that the independent prosecutor will ensure that all persons who deserve prosecution will be arraigned be court “without political colorations”.
