E-levy will be passed peacefully in Parliament- John Kumah

The Member of Parliament for Ejisu constituency in Ashanti Region, John Kuma, has said the passage of the much talked about E-levy bill will be done peacefully.

The imposition of the electronic transfer levy has been the subject of controversy in Parliament, of which voting led to a fight in the house between the Majority and Minority caucuses on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians are worried due to its impact on mobile money transactions and the vulnerable who patronise it in the country.

However, the Deputy Finance Minister on Wednesday 2, 2022, speaking on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofoɔ morning show said he is very sure of the passing of the bill despite the challenges it has faced.

According to him, there is no fear or anticipation of another fight in the House over the passage because the chaos that occurred was a mistake which all parliamentarians are ashamed of and would not be repeated under any circumstances.

The Minister noted that the NPP government has created a convenient space for nation building by proposing a bill that will restore confidence in the economy if passed.

Explaining the “I need the E-Levy badly” in President Akuffo Addo’s words to Kofi Adoma Nwanwani, John Kumah said the President aims to govern the nation and make it better under his administration.

Furthermore, Mr. Kumah put forward that the National Democratic Congress’ opposition to the e-levy is nothing but “propaganda,” adding that the fears of the general public about the process is attributed to the ‘lies’ the NDC party has created, a situation he accused the party’s National Communication Director, Sammy Gyamfi of masterminding.

While clearing ‘misconceptions’ held by some publics that the “introduction of the e-levy is a lazy man approach”, he urged Ghanaians to support the government because the it would ultimately be beneficial to the country.
