6 police officers interdicted in Lamashegu shooting

The Ghana Police administration have interdicted six police officers, for their involvement in a shooting incident that led to the killing of one person at Lamashegu near Tamale in the Northern Region.

The six include; General Corporal Samson Kweku Darfour, General Corporal Prosper Mormesimu and General Constable Harrison Twum Danso.

The rest are General Constable Matthew Sah, General Constable Nuhu Muntari and Constable Doris Serwa Bonsu.

A statement from the police on Monday February, 14, 2022 said, “the police administration has also dispatched a team of investigators led by the deputy director-general of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DCOP Frederick Agyei to lead the investigation into the matter.”

Additionally, personnel from the Police Professionals Standard Bureau (PPSB) have been detailed alongside the CID team to look at professional standard related issues of the incident.

The statement said it has tasked the Northern Regional Police Commander to “liaise with the affected families and offer them the necessary support in line with the Police Regulations.”

They police are therefore appealing to the people of Lamashegu and the entire Tamale metropolis to remain calm as investigations is under way into the unfortunate incident.

Shooting Incident

About four persons have sustained gunshot wounds after the youth clashed with police personnel at Lamashegu in the Northern Region.

Reports indicate that a police officer chased and shot a driver of an unlicensed vehicle in the Chief’s palace.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

The driver refused to stop when he was stopped by the police who subsequently pursued him into the Lamashegu Chief’s palace.

The action of the police officer angered the youth who decided to besiege the Lamashegu police station and attacked the officers on duty with stones.

The police also called for backup which eventually led to a shooting incident harming about four youths.
