UTAG suspends strike temporarily

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has directed members to temporarily suspend its strike action.

The directive was given after an emergency meeting of the NEC held at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) on February 21, 2022, to deliberate on the way forward of the association and the impact of the court ruling against their industrial action.

UTAG said in a statement that it considered the impact of industrial action on students and appeals from the public especially parents and some eminent leaders including former President, John Agyekum Kufour, Sir Sam Jonah and some chancellors of public universities in Ghana.

The appeal from the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, the association said was also considered.

NEC acting in accordance with UTAG’s by-laws on – Article 5, Section 1-4 – will have to consult the other members of the assocaition for ratifications or otherwise of the decision on their strike action.

It has therefore decided to temporarily suspend the strike action.

NEC of UTAG has urged all it memebers to support in securing improved conditions of service of the university teacher.
