The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has condemned the invassion of Ukraine by Russian military forces.

The condemnation follows a full scale attack on Ukraine by Russian forces on Thursday, February 24, 2022, after Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, announced the military invasion at dawn.

ECOWAS, which has been monitoring the Russia’s invasion of the Republic of Ukraine, noted that it is greatly concerned especially as the growing tensions have led to several casualties, particularly among civilians.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 27, it said “ECOWAS strongly condemns this action and calls for both parties to stop the fighting…”
