The National Union of Ghana Students has suggested for the closure down of the University of Ghana, Legon, (UG) if lectures are not willing to return to the lecture hall.

According to NUGS, the decision of UG-UTAG not to comply with the Business and Executive Committee’s schedule for teaching and learning is “unfortunate.”

NUGS suggestion comes after UG’s branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), resolved not to return to lecture hall after majority of members of public universities in the country rejected NEC decision to suspend the strike action which commenced on January 10th.

In a letter signed by the chapter secretary, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, noted that they await conclusion of meetings between UTAG and the government on Friday, March 4, 2022 before resuming teaching.

However, the mother student’s union expressed worry about the situation and demanded the immediate shutdown if lectures wont return to class because student cannot continue to endure the strike action.

“Students cannot continue to bear the brunt of this strike action. If the teaching is no where in sight, shutdown the school” NUGS said in a tweet.
