The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have beaten the Black Satellites of Ghana in the ongoing West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B U-20 championship opening game in Niamey, Niger.

The Black Satellites who started their title defense on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the Championship were defeated 2-0 by their bitter rivals.

Coach Ladan Bosso’s boys who proved too strong from the blast of the whistle at the Stade Seyni Kountche took the lead in the first ten minutes through Ibrahim Muhammad.

Substitute Ahmad Abdullahi thereafter doubled the lead in the 78th minute to ensure that the Flying Eagles earn all three points in their first group game.

This places Nigeria in a pole position to qualify from a group that has only three teams. Nigeria takes on Burkina Faso in their last Group B clash at the same venue on Wednesday.

The reigning champions, Ghana will also know their fate when they take on Burkina Faso at the Stade Seyni Kountche on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

In Group A, host nation, Niger were beaten 1-0 by the Baby Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire as Benin overcame 10 men Togo with the same scoreline to boost their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
