FDA shuts down Marwarko Restaurant for alleged food poisoning

The Food and Drugs Authority has closed down the East Legon branch of Marwarko Restaurant following complaints of food poisoning.

According to the FDA, it has taken notice of reports from the public about the suspected food poisoning after they visited the eatery over the weekend.

The Authority’s action follows widespread complaints from persons who ate from the restaurant over the weekend on social media.

One Edward Elohim, who tweeted about his illness after eating at Mawarko last Saturday, was the first to complain on social media.

A twitter user wrote that “avoid Marwarko and save your life. I had food poisoning and it has maltreated me since Sunday morning. It was the coleslaw that did me in…”

Another person tweeted that “Marwarko gave me and many others in this hospital the worst food poisoning ever…Nyaho Clinic apparently has over 70 patients who all got sick from Marwarko. this is crazy.”

Responding to the suspected claims of food poisoning, the FDA “closed down the restaurant.”

It indicated that “together with other relevant agencies, it has started investigations [into the matter]”

 

The Authority further assured the public that the issue would be thoroughly investigated and the appropriate actions would be taken.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Mawarko, Amin Lamptey has said that data available to them indicates that 53 persons have been affected so far and Mawarko is assisting with the medical bills of the affected victims.
