The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison-Addo, has observed that the association will commence arresting persons involved in match-fixing in the country.

He said the Association will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute individuals found guilty of match-fixing and betting activities.

The Ghanaian football has in recent times come under immense criticism following numerous allegations of matches of convenience surrounding the topflight league.

However, amid measures to cleanse the rot facing the sporting industry, Prosper Harrison says, they will resort to effecting police arrest on offenders whose activities amount to destroying the game.

“All those who have in their mind that there is no law in Ghana to deal with match manipulation and match-fixing, then the person is deceiving himself.

“So whoever is involved in illegal betting and match manipulation and believes that only football people can punish them because Ghana does not have any law then the person doesn’t know and understand the country’s laws.

“The day of reckoning will come, the police will make an arrest, I tell you. Wherever it matters for police to effect an arrest, police will arrest offenders,” Prosper Harrison Addo angrily stated on Angel FM’s floodlight sports on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

He continued that “The game [football] is bigger than any individual in Ghana so if you are arrested, then you are on your own”.

The Lawyer by profession also observed that the fight against match “manipulation and the protection of the integrity of the game” does not end, therefore, it demands a collective effort of observation and monitoring.
