The Central African Republic secured its first point in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers after holding Ghana to a 1-1 stalemate at the Estadio 11 de Novembre in Luanda, Angola.

Coach Otto Addo made seven changes to the squad that defeated Madagascar in the first group game in Ghana.

Kudus Mohammed put Ghana up front in the 17th minute after a nice inter-positional pass with Osman Bukari before curling the ball into the net.

The Wild Beast of CAR equalized in the 40th minute through Karl Namnganda whose powerful strike beat goalkeeper Ati Zigi.

In the 55th minute, Ghana was forced to substitute Jonathan Mensah when he sustained a severe injury after colliding with an opposing player and was taken to the hospital.

Both sides subsequently, created some decent chances in the second half but failed to convert them to goals.

The last opportunity fell in Kudus Mohammed’s way to give the Black Stars the lead in the penalty area but the shot went wide for a goal kick.

The game thus ended 1-1 after full time allowing Ghana to maintain their top position on the Group E table.
