Joyce Aryee-chaired Committee receives GH₵42 million for Appiatse redevelopment

The Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor has revealed that the Appiatse Support Fund has received donations totalling over GH₵42 million so far.

He said the funds raised, came from individuals and corporate institutions who have contributed to the redevelopment of the Appiatse community which was razed by an explosion.

“As of Monday, June 6, 2022, the Committee had received cash donations of GH¢42,527,380.2. This amount includes the four instalment payments made by Maxam Ghana Limited.

“Out of this amount, GH¢1 million has been advanced to the Appiate Reconstruction Implementation Committee to complete temporary structures to accommodate the victims of the incident, ending the reconstruction as well as undertake preparatory works for the construction,” Mr Jinapor said.

The Minister who is the Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency, also disclosed that the Appiatse Support Fund committee also received donations in kinds such as wood, cement, clothing and food to augment the government’s efforts at rebuilding the community.

The Appiatse Fund was launched on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

The purpose of the fund is to among other things, support the victims of the incident and reconstruct the Appiatse community after a truck carrying explosives to a mine was involved in a crash and destroyed the community.

So far, 14 people have been confirmed dead from the incident while over hundreds have suffered various degrees of injuries.
