An 18-year-old man, Mawunya Francis, has been arrested by the Awutu Bereku District Police Command, while his accomplice Bernard is at large, for allegedly killing an 18-year-old Okada rider, Kwabena Ogyam, for rituals.

Information available to Angelonline.com.gh indicates that Mawunya and his friend hired the Okada rider from Awutu Bontrase to Mfadwen but allegedly killed him and took his motor and the dead body away.

In an interview with Angel news reporter, Opanyin Darko, the father of the deceased, Kwame Darko revealed that the suspects told their friends about their intention of sacrificing a human being for money ritual to buy a luxurious car before the 2022 Awutu Awubia Festival.

According to Mr Darko, “an informant told us that one of the boys who seized my son’s motor lives at Swedru. We followed up and brought the culprit together with his father to the Bereku Police station. But the father was released since he had no hand in the crime. We found a blood-stain shirt and some items, all of which, we gave to the police. The police assured us that they would do their work diligently after we made the report. I think they have either kidnapped or killed the child.”

Meanwhile, some of the Okada riders expressed their concerns about the rapid increase in criminal activities in their area.

“Awutu Bereku is our working place. Here, there are many sites so three or more people can pick you for a ride to their site and attack you… then after they seize our motors and attack us with sharp objects and others,” an okada rider said.

The riders therefore, appealed to the police to come to their aid and offer them protection from criminals.

The residents stormed the police station and demanded that the suspect be released to them to be killed but the police commander in Awutu Bereku District fired three warning shots to disperse the crowd after they refused to leave the station.
