Teachers of the Nurses Training College in Damongo have embarked on a strike leaving students to loiter about on campus.

Although the teachers have not formally given the media a statement explaining why they are on strike, reports claim that they are demanding the payment of allowances that are owed to them from the previous semester.

When the media visited the school in the morning, only the academic coordinator was available, with some students spotted roaming around campus while others were sitting idle in class.

The school’s principal, Hajia Rabiatu Iddrisu, who had at the time arrived from Tamale, said she was yet to determine the cause of the strike. She assured the media that her findings would be communicated to the public.

Some of the students who spoke under anonymity expressed their optimism that the situation will be resolved quickly so that classes can resume.

The school however resumed last week after their break, although the start of the semester’s tuition was not until Monday, July 18.
