A 30-year-old resident of Amuzukorpe in Kasoa, Michael Amannor, who was almost set on fire by a mob in Kasoa over an alleged robbery is pleading for justice.

According to him, the cops came to his rescue to keep him from burning to death when his attackers doused him in gasoline to set him ablaze.

Narrating his ordeal, Mr Amannor said his attackers broke into his house on July 11, 2022, and were armed with clubs, bottles and other weapons in an attempt to get him.

He explained that his neighbours accused him for allegedly being involved in a theft that had taken place nearby. Someone claimed to have seen Michael in connection with the theft of a TV set and other electronic devices from a nearby home during the night.

“The people attacked me when I got home, they beat me for 4 hours. They poured petrol on me, and also stripped me naked. So someone reported the issue and the police came to my rescue. I was in their custody until evening and they let me go.”

The victim however lamented the police’s inability to get him justice.

“Up to today there haven’t been any arrests’’ he complained.

According to him, he is unaware of the charges against him and finds it incomprehensible that, while having no history of theft, he could be physically assaulted and humiliated by his own neighbors.

Speaking to the media, Michael Amannor said that the only course of action left for him after the attack is to ponder suicide.

“I am appealing to the IGP and seeking justice, the police should bring the perpetrators to book for me to restore my reputation,” he added.
