A farmer group by name Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana, has opposed the ongoing SIM card re-registration exercise describing it as fraudulent.

The farmers’ position on the exercise is influenced by some issues regarding the National Identification Card preferably called Ghana Card.

According to the President of the association, Nana Oboadie Bonsu who spoke on Takoradi-based radio, Connect FM, aside the numerous problems bothering on the sim re-registration process, there are contradictions and deceptions about the naming of the identification card which makes it a double standard.

“How can you tell your citizens that the ECOWAS Identification card should be used as their National ID? We don’t have anything called an ECOWAS card.

“It is unacceptable we the concerned Farmers won’t accept it. It is fraudulent and we won’t accept anything called ECOWAS Card,” he spoke out.

Additionally, the concerned farmers could not fathom why the Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu would set a deadline to the exercise knowing that most Ghanaians including farmers have not accessed the Ghana card required for the registration.

Nana Oboadie Bonsu ended by requesting of the authorities to rescind their decision and make it open for all and sundry and to also change the name from ECOWAS card to Ghana card.
