Commonwealth Games: Benjamin Azamati misses out on 100m medal in finals

Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati failed to win a medal in the men’s 100m finals on Wednesday night’s heat at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

He finished the race in 4th place and clocked a time of 10.16s making him miss the opportunity to at least win a bronze medal.

The 24-year-old qualified for the finals after he finished third in the semi-finals of heat three with a time of 10.18s.

Unfortunately, his compatriot Sean Sarfo-Antwi failed to make the finals after finishing fifth in the semi-final with a time of 10.36m.

Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala, Africa’s fastest man won gold with a time of 10.02s with South Africa’s Akani Simbine finishing second to win the silver in the 100m category.

In another development, Ghana’s Alex Amankwaa qualified for the 800m final with a time of 1:48:26 after coming third in the semifinals Heat three.

Meanwhile, Sean Sarfo-Antwi, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Oduro Manu will hope to win medals for Ghana in the men’s 4x100m race.
