EC to Asiedu Nketia: Your ‘spiritualists’ claim at IPAC meeting “untrue”

The Electoral Commission has denied claims leveled against its Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa that she sent spiritualists to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings to cast out supposed demons.

This follows allegations made by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, that the EC boss hired the services of a spiritualist to cast suspected demons during the meeting meant to discuss political parties.

The vocal political figure is reported to have made the claims on Kumasi-based Otec FM Friday, August 19, 2022, while explaining why the NDC had boycotted recent IPAC (Inter-Party Advisory Committee) meetings.

The opposition NDC has since April 2021 refused to attend meetings of IPAC that are used to discuss matters relating to the electoral system, including reforms to the electoral process due to its loggerheads with the EC Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa.

However, the Electoral Commission in a statement issued Monday, August 22, 2022, rubbished the statement and described it as false.

“The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to a statement made by Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC, to the effect that the chairperson of the commission, Jean Mensa, brought spiritualists to an IPAC meeting to cast out demons.

“For the information of the general public, this is untrue. It never occurred. IPAC meetings are meant to discuss issues relating to Ghana’s Electoral System. This is exactly what occurs there. IPAC meetings are attended by Political Parties, Civil Society and Development Partners,” the EC explained in the statement.

The EC thus dared Mr. Asiedu Nketia to prove his claims since it lacks credibility.

“We state categorically that Mr. Nketia’s assertion is not true, and we challenge him to prove it,” the EC statement concluded.
