The National Democratic Congress (NDC) party in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency is asking the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to adopt a new approach to dealing with residents of the enclave.

The call is occasioned by the brutality visited on some members of the community on Monday August 22, 2022 by military officers in the accompany of ECG staffs.

On the eventful day, the military men allegedly retaliated with heavy hands following alleged threats of some residents to cause bodily harm to the officers should the ECG attempt to install the prepaid meters in their homes.

The encounter between the military and the residents left scores injured while eight of the victims sustained gunshot wounds.

This the NDC executives in the affected area condemned in a press statement sighted by Angelonline.com.gh, adding “the action by the military, we believe, is premeditated”.

Demanding with immediate effect the halting of the installation of the new metering system and the withdrawal of the military officers from the area among other things, the party leadership proposed that the ECG embarks on broader consultation and education.

“We are on the side of the people and as such, we call on the ECG to change its approach and rather do further engagement with the citizens as well as give customer education on the new metering system they want to introduce”.
