The Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Karim Abdul- Mumin, has condemned some allegations levelled against the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.

A group calling itself Coalition of NDC Youth Groups in Tamale accused the Minority Leader of fueling tension in the party at the regional level.

They further claimed it is part of efforts by the Tamale South legislator to “dwindle the fortunes of the NDC party in the region.”

This follows the attack by some angry party supporters on the NDC Regional Secretariat last Tuesday, August 23, to register their dissatisfaction over the selection of Mr Ali Adolf as the NDC Acting Regional Chairman.

The Ghana Police, following the incident, arrested seven persons including the Deputy Northern Regional Communications Officer of the party, Hardi Pagazaa for their alleged involvement.

A statement issued by the coalition on Friday, August 25, accused the Northern Regional Secretary of the party, Mohammed Abdul Salam, of what they labelled as “indiscriminate arrest” of the party’s youth since Hardi Pagazaa had no involvement in the attack on the party office.

Responding to the allegations in a press release issued on Monday, August 29, 2022, signed by the Northern Regional Youth Organizer, Karim Mumin described it as baseless adding that their actions have the tendency of sowing bad seeds within the party in the region.

According to him, the minority leader who doubles as Tamale South legislator has been supportive of the party’s activities in the region, and the most beneficiaries are the youth.

“The attention of the northern regional youth secretariat of the National Democratic Congress has been drawn to a press statement by an unknown youth group in Tamale on Sagani TV, accusing the minority leader of fuelling the troubles in the region.

“As an office responsible for the oversight of all youth activities in the region, I want to state categorically that the allegations levelled against the minority leader Haruna Iddrisu is unfortunate, uninformed, ignorant and condemnable.

“The minority leader on the contrary has been very instrumental in working closely with the party to resolve all the teething problems the party is facing in the region. As youth of the party, it is the expectation of the youth secretariat that you will rather team up solidly behind the party to unite its rank and file instead coming up with these unfounded and baseless allegations which has the tendency of sowing bad seeds within the party in the region.

“The minority leader has been the backbone in supporting party activities not only within the tamale metropolis but the entire region as a whole”, he added.
