5 Chinese arrested in connection with missing excavators in Ellembelle

Five Chinese nationals  have been arrested by the police in connection with the Ellembelle missing excavators.

According to the Police Service, the suspects were rounded up in a special operation.

A statement from the Service reads as follows: “The Police have arrested five Chinese suspects in a special police operation conducted between the night of 7th September till the dawn of 8th September 2022.”

Their arrest comes after one of the missing excavators was retrieved by the police.

Meanwhile, the DCE for Ellembelle, Kwasi Bonzo, together with three others have been arrested following a scuffle between the Mr. Bonzo and some police personnel.

The police accused Mr. Bonzo of obstruction and subsequently charged him with five counts including; assault, conspiracy to assault and resisting arrest.

Hours after his arrest, council to Mr Kwasi Bonzo has said she has been denied access to the client.

Lawyer Salomey Erica Abeka said she has been to the police headquarters twice to see her client, Mr Bonzo but all efforts to make contact with him proved futile.

“I was told he was brought here [Western Regional Headquarters], so I came to ensure that his liberty is assured and that he goes home to be with his family; he doesn’t have to spend more time here than he should.”
