An Accra High Court has placed an injunction on the yet-to-start 2022/23 Betpawa Ghana Premier League season following the demotion of Ashanti Gold SC from the topflight league by the Ghana Football Association (GAF).

This was after the Obuasi-based club sought an interlocutory injunction at the court Thursday, September 8, 2022, to halt the commencement of the new season slated for the weekend of September 9-12, 2022.

The Disciplinary Committee of the GFA during the 2021/22 football season announced the demotion of Ashgold and Inter Allies to the Division Two League after both clubs were found guilty of match manipulation.

Both teams later appealed the decision, however, their petitions were thrown out. As a result, Ashanti Gold SC successfully secured the injunction amidst protesting the FA’s decision to demote them.

The injunction ordered that the restraint “shall last for ten days unless extended upon request put before the court”.
