At least nine more suspects have been arrested in another anti-galamsey operation in the Western Region led by the police service.

The police also retrieved three excavators and three pump action guns in the operation in the wee hours of Friday, September 9, 2022.

The suspects, according to reports are made up of three Chinese nationals and six Ghanaians.

“The Police, in the wee hours of 9th September 2022 arrested nine more suspects and retrieved three excavators and three pump action guns in another anti-galamsey operation in the Western Region,” the police said in a Facebook post.

The arrest comes after one of the missing excavators was retrieved by the police.

Meanwhile, the DCE for Ellembelle, Kwasi Bonzo, together with three others were arrested following alleged obstruction over the missing excavators.

Mr. Bonzo who was granted police inquiry bail had been charged with five counts including assault, conspiracy to assault, and resisting arrest.

In a similar development, five Chinese nationals on Thursday, September 8, 2022, were arrested in connection with the missing excavators in Ellembelle in the Western Region.

The suspects, police said were nabbed “in a special police operation conducted between the night of 7 September till the dawn of 8 September 2022,” a terse police statement posted on Facebook said.
