The Ghana Premier League will resume this weekend after the Human Rights Court on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, dismissed AshantiGold’s court injunction application.

The resumption of the league was announced in a statement of notice by the Ghana Football Association.

In the court ruling, Her Lordship Barbara Tetteh Charway said on the balance of hardship, the Ghana Football Association will suffer more than AshantiGold.

The GFA then asked the court for GH¢300,000 in damages for the 21-day suspension of the league.

Lawyers of AshantiGold thus told the court that they would leave the matter to the court and they were willing to pay GHS 20,000, which was granted by the judge.

Following this, the injunction placed on the league has been lifted however, the substantive case between Ashgold and GFA Executives is still ongoing as they seek for fair hearing amidst its demotion.

On that note, the Executive Council of the GFA said it has decided that the “betpawa premier league should resume this weekend.”

“The Executive Council in their meeting after the court decision were of the view that betpawa premier league resumes immediately to avert further loss to stakeholders,” the notice declared.

According to the FA, it has since then communicated the decision to all participating teams of the competition.

With this, the league enters week five across all nine league centres.

Berekum Chelsea currently leads the league table, Kumasi Asante Kotoko is in ninth position with one match in hand whiles Accra Hearts of Oak occupies 14th position.
