The national chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rubbished the notion by some political schoolers that there would be disintegration in the aftermath of the party’s congress.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who is seeking reelection believes the chairmanship contest with the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, is far from internally destroying the party as projected by many.

The incumbent chairman’s statement comes on the back of the differences with his main contestant Mr Asiedu Nketiah, prior to today’s exercise at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Mr. Ampofo, whiles delivering his opening address, said although in the heat of events, the NDC will not be left on the hook of the enemies, he wished rather the exercise will create an avenue of a unifying front.

“I want our detractors to know that our party still remains strong, and we will come out of today’s elections even stronger. The chairmanship contest between the party chairman and the general secretary will not destroy the NDC, we are all too strong and too intelligent for that.

“Let those false political prophets from the opposing side who are predicting Armageddon after today’s election be clear in their minds that today will rather mark a renaissance of a great akatamansonians,” he affirmed.

He continued and asked the NDC fraternity to be mindful that the congress marks the start point of their journey to reclaim power from the ruling NPP government in 2024.

NPP accuses NDC government of “fiddling” with anti-flood interventions as June 29 rains hit Accra

“Today will mark the beginning of our march towards rescuing Ghana from the wickedness, ineptitude and catastrophic NPP government. In 2024 we will snatch not only parliament but also the presidency from the NPP government,” Ofosu-Ampofo said affirmatively.

He furthered and charged members of the NDC to ensure they leave congress grounds with a clear message to Ghanaians that they are the only political party Ghanaians can depend on in terms of being very responsive to the cry of the people.

“Fellow akatamansonians, our actions and decisions, we must signal the NDC is a party of choice for Ghanaians… the outcome for this congress should assure our teeming supporters and the army of voters who are disappointed in the NPP government that with the NDC in the driving seat, Ghanaians can look out to the future with a lot more hope and optimism.”
