The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Kobina Tahiru Hammond has been appointed the new Minister of Trade and Industry.

The MP replaces Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen who resigned in January to focus on his presidential ambitions.

The appointment of K.T. Hammond forms part of 4 new appointments the President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made.

The other new appointments include Bryan Acheampong who will head the Ministry of Food and Agriculture replacing Dr Afriyie Akoto who also resigned to pursue his presidential vision; Stephen Asamoah Boateng who will oversee the affairs of the Chieftaincy Ministry and Dr Stephen Amoah as Deputy Trade Minister.

As part of President Akufo-Addo’s changes in the ministerial appointments, two deputy ministers have been elevated to the position of Minister of State. They are Osei Bonsu Amoah, MP for Akwapim South now Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development and Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, MP for Karaga now Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.

Meanwhile, there has been a deputy ministerial position reshuffle; Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry will now serve as the Deputy Minister for Energy.
