Residents of Ashaiman, a community in Greater Accra, are living in fear following an invasion by some personnel of the Ghana Arm Forces in the early hours of Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

According to Angelonline.com.gh sources, most residents who encountered the military officers suffered brutality and some forms of punishment including arm pressing among others.

The invasion by the military officers follows a notice they served to residents of the area on Monday, March 6, 2023. It is in connection with the death of a 22-year-old captain of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) who was reportedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants on Saturday dawn.

Reports have it that the deceased was returning home to their Zongo-Laka residence in Ashaiman when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Though he was carrying a laptop and other electronic gadgets, the unidentified killers made away with only his iPhone, per the reports.

Reporting on the Anopa Bofo morning show from Ashaiman, Augustine Ahiagbor indicated that the military officers who were in numbers stormed the area and started brutalizing whosoever they set their eyes on.

This, he continued, prevented most residents from coming out from their various homes to carry out their normal routines.

However, he noted, some residents who had waked up at dawn and were going to various bus terminals to board vehicles to work were not spared by the angry military officers as series of punishment were meted out on them.

Augustine Ahiagbor described the situation as scary to residents since majority are compelled to stay home because they feared falling victim to the brutality.

Management of the Ghana Armed Forces is yet to officially comment on the incident but in the meantime, the police are investigating the circumstances under which the soldier was killed.
