Police in Kong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality have commenced investigations into circumstance leading to the abandonment of a newborn baby girl at Ahodwo, a suburb of Kpong in the Eastern Region.

The newborn was found lying at the doorstep of a reverend minister of the New Covenant Apostolic Church, in the early hours of Sunday, July 16, 2023.

A suicide note was also discovered alongside the baby, which is believed to have been left by the mother of the baby, pleading with the man of God to take good care of the baby as he will do for his biological daughter.

“By the time you finish reading this letter, I will be dead and gone, please take care of the baby as your own child. Please, I regret doing this, but that is the only way this baby can have a chance to live. Please, she was born just yesterday night. Please take care of her. I’m sorry, please forgive me. God bless you,” the suicide note read.

Assemblyman of Kpong-Ahodwo Electoral Area, Raymond Gborson said, police rescued the abandoned child and have since commenced investigations into the matter.

He told local journalist who visited the scene that the incident has left the entire community into a state of shock because it is the first of its kind there.
