Ashanti Region: Student ‘chief priest’ dies in fire ritual

A third-year student at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) in the Ashanti Region has met his untimely death in a bizarre circumstance.

The deceased, Master Prosper Owusu, is reported to have died on Friday, September 1, 2023, when he engaged in a fire-related incident on campus.

According to management of the school, the incident took place as Owusu, and fellow students of Opoku Ware II Hall were participating in activities around the hall premises on the evening of Friday, August 22, 2023.

He is said to have sustained injury in the mishap and was swiftly transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to receive urgent medical attention.

Unfortunately for the victim, despite the efforts of medical professionals at the facility to save him he could not survive the damage and passed on Friday, September 1.

The university authorities in a statement on its website have confirmed the incident and added that they have begun investigations into the fire-related incident leading to the death of Master Prosper Owusu.

“The issues surrounding the incident at the Hall are being investigated. Management will give further updates.”

The University extends their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, students, and friends of the late Prosper Owusu.

Meanwhile, students have been cautioned to “avoid activities that predispose them to risks and other dire consequences.”
