Private Legal practitioner, Lawyer Kwame Adofoh has called on the leadership of the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the leaked audio on the plot to remove Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to reconsider their decision to opening their hearings to the public.
Speaking on Angel Morning Show on Monday, 4th September, 2023, Lawyer Adofoh said the public showing of the hearings are not in the interest of the nation’s security.
“From my point of views, I think it was unnecessary to make the who process public…there are certain sensitive security information that are not meant for public consumption. So I personally think it should be in closed doors…,” he said.
According to him, the commission should have been given a wider terms of reference to go into everything about the police service ‘so that they would get more information’.
“Claims of the IGP being autocratic and not being the best IGP in 30 years were all comments meant for in-camera hearings. There are enemies of the country who are watching who would take advantage of some of these divisions and exploit our security services to their advantage…,” he said.
The Lawyer told host, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah said the purpose of the entire investigations would be jeopadised if the amount of information coming from the committee is not controlled.
Despite not agreeing with the public airing of the contents from the committee, the Lawyer was also of the opinion that some of the claims including the claim that some police officers were promoted based on their political affiliations are open secret.
