Commercial motor riders, popularly known as Okada riders have hailed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare for implementing policies that have helped boost their business in the capital.

The Okada riders, most of whom are also involved in the delivery business said the directives of the IGP that only licensed riders should be entertained on the roads have helped to boost the business in diverse ways.

Speaking on Angel Morning Show hosted by Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, one of the riders, Evans Nartey said “if not for IGP, delivery services would be in jeopardy”.

“At first there were places in Accra which were ‘no go areas ‘ for okada riders especially Tudu, and Kaneshie, they had to park somewhere and walk to deliver a package. They were arrested even if they adhered to all protective measures, but that completely changed now,” Nartey said.

He added that they used all their hard earned money to pay policemen and at some point they wanted to give up, but the IGP has been very helpful especially in Accra.

He stated that the IGP once said “the dispatch riders have next to nothing to eat” due to the dangers involved in their work.

Evans Nartey who was part of the ten Okada riders who were given free fuel for their operations by Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah seized the opportunity to acknowledge what IGP George Dampare has done for them during his tuned of office.
