The New Patriotic Party (NPP) should expect more breakaways ahead of the 2024 election general election, Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Ransford Gyampo has projected.

He is of the notion that Alan Kyeremanten would not be the last member of the elephant family to take such decision.

“When prevailing issues within the party are not resolved immediately, after November 4, members of the NPP will have to deal with another breakaway,” Mr. Gyampo told Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah on the Angel Morning Show on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

Professor Gyampo said issues concerning the refusal of some aspirants and executives to abide by the party’s rules and regulations as well as the party’s failure to punish them when the need arises will be part of the reasons for the breakaway.

“The NPP claim to have rules governing their party which they should learn to abide by them in order to avoid taking sides when matters arise,” he said.

He however suggested that the party can avoid all these fracass if it puts its house in order.

“The deed has already been done, their duty now is to pick up the pieces in order to avoid further divisions within the party…,”he said.
