2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikoi North Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Maame Afua Akoto has underscored the need for review in the operations of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to improve its accountability.

In a studio discussion on the Angel Morning Show on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, she said “I think over the past years, the VRA has been reluctant in carrying out its duties, hence, it should be more accountable than it has been.”

She expressed her dissatisfaction with the VRA’s lack of proactiveness to limit spillage, stating that, if action had been taken earlier, the overflow could have been managed more effectively.

“Although the VRA did their mandatory tasks in a way, I feel that a greater level of effort could have averted the spillage or ensured better control of the situation,’ she stressed.

The former deputy Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC suggested that the management of the VRA should consider the rudimentary knowledge and skills of its current employee’s and replace them with well-informed individuals for a progressive work.

“If the current engineers responsible for making calculations toward an overflow or spillage systems are rusty, they should be dropped and replaced them with fresh blood.

“In other words, the youth who are more knowledgeable in these sectors must be deployed to avoid further complications,” she suggested.
