An aspirant in the 2024 Presidential elections, Akwasi Addai Odike says disaster awaits the New Patriotic Party (NPP), with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer.

According to the founder of the United Progressive Party, Dr Bawumia, who is also the Vice President, has nothing new to offer Ghanaians because he has contributed vastly to the hardship facing the country.

“If Bawumia continuous to lead the NPP, the election results would be disastrous because all the mishaps happening in the party Bawumia is involved,” Odike said Monday, November 20, 2023, on the morning show on Angel TV and Angel 102.9 FM.

The businessman cum politician added that most Ghanaians, especially, Members of Parliament, are not happy with how the country is being governed.

He referenced a statement made by former President John Agyekum Kufour, in which he advised party delegates “elect someone who would bring togetherness to the party and not someone who would appeal to the party only” when they go to the polls to elect leaders.

He was quick to indicate that what the former statesman said is manifesting within the NPP because, President Akufo-Addo’s leadership had already set a bad precedent of creating a camp for his vice.

“You have done an establishment for Bawumia against everybody in the party… If you end your tenure of office, sit back and let the best win because afterall you will give your support,” the presidential hopeful added.

The controversial politician also accused President Akufo-Addo of using the Bawumia establishment to threaten some MPs that they would lose their seats in 2024.

“But in your case, it is threatening to the extent that if you don’t follow the establishment, you stand to lose your seat,” he claimed.

He stated further that some MPs he had engaged, have expressed their worries concerning the current happenings on the NPP.

“The MPs tell me they are afraid and for this reason, they are swallowing a bitter pill by endorsing Dr. Bawumia.”
