Kingmakers of the Gonja Traditional Council has enskinned Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and conferred him the chieftaincy title Konokowulera which means, the Chief of Unity.
The Vice President who doubles as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 general election was given the title in the Savannah Regional capital, when he paid a courtesy call on traditional authorities in the area and its surroundings.
He called on Nyelinboligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana Abdullai, Paramount Chief of Nanumba Traditional Council in Bimbilla, Ubor Mateer Bowon Kwayaja Paramount Chief of Saboba Traditional Council, and the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I in Damonho.
He also extended his visit to the Ya Naa Abubakari Mahama II, the Overlord of the Dagbon Traditional Area in Yendi.
The traditional authorities thus bestowed onto the NPP flagbearer with the Konokowulera title to wit ‘the Chief of Unity’ for his traits of maintaining unity and harmony in the country.
Dr. Bawumia showing took to Facebook page and expressed his profound gratitude to the kingmakers for the honor done him.
“I am grateful to their Royal Majesties, and their elders, for their continuous support, encouragement, and wise counsel,” he posted.
Dr. Bawumia, at Yendi, was advised by the Ya Naa Abubakari Mahama II, the Overlord of the Dagbon Traditional Area, to embark on a clean and respectful campaign ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He reminded him the need to treat his competitor, former President John Dramani Mahama, of the NDC as his brother because both are sons of Dagbon and shares the same aspirations for the country’s development.
