As the search for a vice presidential material sets in after the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential elections, the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency believes that a female best fits the bill.

Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the MP, argued that although Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has “distinguished himself already and is very well recognised” with his credentials proving him to be a competent flagbearer, he needs an astute politician to complement him.

To the legislator, sitting Vice President is not the “normal politician” otherwise described as “career politician,” but an economist who is determined to transform the plummeted economy, therefore the search for one capable of managing the political space for him.

To this end, Mr Akwasi Acquah throws his weight behind one of three strong women in the party to partner the current Vice president going into next year’s polls.

They are Irene Naa Torshie-Addo, the current Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF); Akosua Frema Opare, the Chief of Staff as well as Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.

He expressed his conviction that any of the three women, if selected, would give the NPP an added advantage.

He explained that they can appeal more to the female population than a male vice presidential candidate would, therefore the advocacy for a woman to be selected.

“The NDC tried it in the last election, but they didn’t understand how instrumental it was for women to be rallied around a woman to deliver during elections” the lawmaker alluded and added, “but I will advocate that a woman is chosen”.

He expressed these while weighing in on the issue revolving around Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s choice for Vice President on United Television, monitored by Angelonline.com.gh.
